Travis Barker’s life will be changed forever by crash, says Shanna Moakler
Shanna Moakler has said her and ex-husband Travis Barker’s “lives will be changed forever” following his plane crash at the weekend.
The former Blink 182 drummer and friend Adam Goldstein (aka DJ AM) were both badly burned when their private Learjet crashed on take-off at an airport in South Carolina. The plane’s pilot and co-pilot, and Travis’ security guard Charles Still & assistant Chris Baker were all killed.
Shanna, who has two children with the drummer and co-starred with him in their reality show Meet the Barkers, divorced Travis last year but flew to his Augusta, Georgia hospital bedside on Saturday.
In a statement released through her publicist yesterday, Shanna thanked the public for the support they’ve received since the crash: “There are not enough words to express how thankful we are for the outpouring of love and support we have received during this very difficult time.
“We can only ask for prayers as we heal and mourn the loss of our dear friends who we considered part of our family. Our lives will be changed forever.”
A source close to the former Playboy model added: “She’s there trying to lift his spirits. She’s there for him and will be there for him as long as it takes. She loves him.”
DJ AM’s ex-girlfriend Mandy Moore also arrived in the city yesterday to support his recovery. The pair only dated for a few months earlier last year - shortly after he split from fiancee Nicole Richie - but are said to have remained friends.
Crash investigators currently believe the incident may have been caused by a tyre exploding at a critical point in the take-off. Preliminary autopsies have indicated that the pilots died as a result of smoke inhalation and burns, while Charles and Chris died as a result of the plane’s impact.
