heath ledgerMichelle Williams has agreed to help fund a scholarship set up in her late ex-boyfriend Heath Ledger’s name, to help Australian actors pursue careers in the US.

The Australians in Film Heath Ledger Scholarship offers actors round-trip airfare from Australia to the US and a grant of around £5,000 to help launch their career.

Heath’s friend Gregor Jordan, who will be on the five person panel reviewing applicates, explained: “Broke Aussie actors in Los Angeles form a tradition that goes all the way back to Errol Flynn.

“Heath was definitely part of that tradition and this scholarship is something he would have been proud to have his name associated with.”

Heath’s dad Kim Ledger added: “We as a family are pleased with the establishment and progress of the AiF scholarship award named in honour of our much loved and generous son, Heath.

“As a result of this scholarship, talented Australian actors will gain valuable assistance to support their personal goals, and an opportunity for recognition in the very tough US film industry.”

Michelle is said to have been amongst the first donors signed up to support the scheme after handing over an undisclosed sum. Michelle is the mother of Heath’s only child, daughter Matilda, but split from the Dark Knight star last summer, ahead of his untimely death in January.
