Christian Slater: I started partying at the age of 9

Christian Slater has revealed it’s no surprise he partied hard during his teenage years - because he started drinking very young.

After his first flush of success as a teen star, the then 20 year old Heathers star was sentenced to ten days jail time in 1989 for drink-driving and resisting arrest. He later went on to battle drug abuse and spent 59 days in prison in 1997 after a heroin-fuelled assault of then girlfriend Michelle Jonas.

Now clean, he told GQ magazine recently that his partying habit when he was just nine years old and on the road with a travelling production of Music Man: “I didn’t get high, but I got drunk.

“We were travelling around, hitting every state. And every time we would go to a different place, we’d have an opening night party.

“And it was cute to put me in a tuxedo and run me around. There were glasses of champagne floating around, and four glasses of champagne later…”
