Justin is said to have popped the question while in Rome with the I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry star, attending the wedding of Jessica’s friend Beverly Mitchell. Jessica was one of the seven bridesmaids at the wedding after she and Beverly played sisters on 7th Heaven.

A source close to the singer told the People newspaper that Justin was inspired by the lavish nuptials: “Justin has grown up a lot in the last couple of years and has decided it is time to settle down.

“He is besotted with Jessica and wants to make an honest woman of her.

“He planned to propose in Rome because it is such a romantic city. Jessica is over the moon and looking forward to a huge wedding. She can’t wait.”

The source added that the couple plan to marry within in the next year to 18 months.

The couple were first linked in January 2007 but didn’t confirm their romance until much later in the year. Last month, Justin is said to have told friends he was “this close” to marrying the actress.
