Meg RyanMeg Ryan has said she actually likes it that she’s no longer Hollywood’s golden girl.

Meg’s very successful rom-coms of the 1980s and 1990s - including When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail - turned her into an American sweetheart - but the public reaction to her affair with Russell Crowe in 2000, while she was still married to Dennis Quaid, forced her to pull away from the limelight.

She told S magazine recently: “It’s a very big surprise in life when you learn that not everyone is rooting for you.

“It’s a very scary thing when you figure that out.

“I took some time off. I think it’s great being less famous.”

She added that, at 46, she also doesn’t see herself with a long future in Hollywood: “I think when Hollywood’s done with me, I will probably have been done with it a little sooner.”
