Britney SpearsBritney Spears‘ legal team has rejected a plea bargain over the singer’s driving without a valid license case.

Britney was offered a year’s probation and a $150 fine if she accepted the misdemeanor charge but her lawyer J. Michael Flanagan said he wanted to avoid a criminal conviction for the star and would only accept the deal if it was considered an infraction and was accompanied by a lesser fine.

The charge stems from August last year when Britney crashed her car into a parked vehicle while pulling into a car park. Britney was found to only have a Louisiana state driving license despite having lived in California for a number of years and was formally arrested and charged over the license issue. She was also initially charged with a hit-and-run but that was dismissed after she compensated the other driver for damages.

The license case will now go to trial in Van Nuys, California next week.

In related news, the singer was involved in another minor car crash yesterday.

According to Team Britney, the star was in the back seat of her Cadillac Escalade when it was hit from behind by a paparazzi’s vehicle - but photographers claim that her car backed up and hit the snapper’s car. The crash resulted in considerably damage to the Escalade’s rear left side but no one was injured.
