Britney Spears: looking back, I think what the hell was I thinking?
Britney Spears has admitted she has no idea what she was thinking during her wild year.
After splitting from husband Kevin Federline in late 2006, she began partying to excess, wearing revealing clothes, flashing her various pink parts to the paparazzi and shaved her head. Eventually she lost custody of her two young sons and her access scaled back further as she went in and out of hospital earlier this year.
Speaking in a documentary filmed for MTV to be shown just before the release of her new album ‘Circus’ at the start of December, she explained: “I sit there and I look back. [I think] ‘I’m a smart person, what the hell was I thinking?’
“I’ve been through a lot, and there’s a lot people don’t know.
“Sometimes it can get lonely ’cause you don’t open the gate. I’m stuck in this place, and I just cope every day. I’m guarded, I have to be guarded.”
In a statement to promote the programme, tentatively titled ‘For the Record’, she added: “I wanted to make this film because I started to feel like I wasn’t being seen in the light that I wanted to be seen in. This is an opportunity to set the record straight and talk about what I’ve been through and where I’m headed.”
The programme will include her personal account of her time on the edge and behind the scenes material from the recording and rehearsal studios, press events and the video shoot for her forthcoming single ‘Womanizer’.
