Guy Ritchie’s mum: he knew what he was getting into when he married Madonna

Guy Ritchie’s mum has reportedly said he only has himself to blame for the end of his marriage to Madonna.

Earlier this year, Lady Amber Leighton described the divorce rumours as “total tosh” but is now quoted as telling a friend that Guy knew exactly what he was getting into when he married the star in 2000.

The Mirror quotes her as telling a friend: “Guy chose to take this route, he knew what he was doing when he married her and got involved with that end of the market.

“It was inevitable. It’s sad to watch any relationship go downhill. But that couldn’t go on. I know who Guy is and it didn’t take much to see who she is, and it couldn’t work.

“It’s unfortunate but he had some idea of what he was doing when he wed her.”

She is said to have added that she doubts her film director son will get over the split any time soon: “It’s going to take Guy longer than he bargained for to get over it. He didn’t know what it feels like, and he’s about to find out.

“It will take time and I think Guy is very unhappy the marriage has ended this way.

“Those feelings won’t go away quickly. He reckons he’ll be OK when the lawyers have finished, but it doesn’t work like that. Divorce is hideous for everybody.”

The couple announced their plans to divorce on Wednesday.
