michael jacksonMichael Jackson has reportedly converted to Islam after a ceremony in Los Angeles.

According to the Sun, Michael, who was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness, decided to convert while recording his new album after talking to friends, songwriter David Wharnsby and producer Phillip Bubal.

A source told the newspaper: “They began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea.

“An Imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief.”

The ceremony is said to have taken place at the home of musician Steve Porcaro, who composed music for Michael’s best-selling album ‘Thriller’ and Michael is believed to have adopted the name Mikaeel, the name of one of Allah’s angles.

Early last year, Michael’s brother Jermaine Jackson said he thought Michael should convert to the religion because it helped keep him calm and centred - including during his time in the Celebrity Big Brother house.
