Madonna & Guy Ritchie granted quickie divorce
Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s marriage has officially been declared over after their decree nisi was granted at the High Court in London this morning.
The couple, who only confirmed their intention to split last month, are said to have wanted to rush through the legal proceedings in an effort to keep the settlement details secret.
Neither party was in court this morning to hear the announcement - in the case “Ciccone M L v Ritchie G S” - by District Judge Reid along with 16 other cases qualifying “for pronouncement of decree or order under the special procedure rule”.
Documents released by the court show that Madonna petitioned for divorce on the grounds of Guy’s unreasonable behaviour and that they had not lived together at the same address for the preceeding six months.
The couple are believed to have also finalised the property division and financial aspect of the divorce, with Guy receiving the couple’s £10million estate in Wiltshire and their £2.5million pub, the Punchbowl, in Mayfair.
A source close to Guy told the London Evening Standard: “He has never been interested in Madonna’s cash. [He] could have taken her to the cleaners. It takes a very honourable man to have walked away.”
But a source on Team Madonna told the Daily Mail that Guy is walking away with more than he claims: “Madonna is livid that people think he hasn’t asked for a penny when he is walking away with millions.
“On paper, Guy will not take any money. However all the security, travel and any other arrangements with the children will be funded by Madonna.
“She has also agreed to give him a £2million sweetener as a kind of gift. This will not be seen in the court paperwork.
“She will maintain his standard of living for the children. However that arrangement will also not be seen in the court paperwork.”
The couple are also said to have agreed on custody arrangement for their three children: with sons Rocco and David dividing their time between London and Guy and Madonna’s new home in New York. Madonna’s daughter Lourdes from a previous relationship will live full-time with her mum.
If no objections are received, the couple’s decree absolute - finalising their divorce once and for all - will be issued in around six weeks.
Do you think Katie Price's marriage to Alex Reid will last?
