Natalie Portman “couldn’t understand celibacy” to play a nun
Natalie Portman reportedly turned down a role in the new Meryl Streep film Doubt because she couldn’t get her head around a key element of the character.
Natalie was offered the chance to play an enthusiastic nun in the film, based on the play of the same name, about an incident in a Catholic school in the 1960s - but eventually the role went to Amy Adams.
Playwright John Patrick Shanley explained: “We asked Natalie Portman, and Natalie was very interested but kept saying she had a problem.
“And we finally nailed down as to what the problem was: she basically said she didn’t understand celibacy.”
Do you think Katie Price's marriage to Alex Reid will last?
