Britney SpearsBritney Spears has said it’s been “a hell of a year” for her but she finally feels she’s on her way again.

The singer’s months of partying began to catch up with her at the end of 2007 when she lost custody of her sons Sean and Jayden, then lost visitation rights to them after a stand-off at her Studio City home in January. Immediately afterwards, she was hospitalised on a mental health hold then a second hospitalisation a few weeks later ended up with her put under the legal supervision of her dad Jamie Spears and lawyer Andrew Wallet. She remains under their supervision as she makes her second big comeback attempt, with her new album ‘Circus’ released in the UK today.

Speaking to Glamour magazine recently, she said: “This whole year has been a hell of a year for me. I have been working so hard on my album, but… I didn’t know exactly where I stood with everyone.”

But, she explained receiving three trophies at the MTV VMAs - her first wins after sixteen nominations - was a huge boost: “When I received the awards and [the audience] stood for me, it showed me how much love is out there. I got a lot of strength from it.”

The singer added that she’s starting to plan for the future too - something she didn’t feel able to do during her troubles: “[In five years] I would love to have a lot of albums under my belt. And a couple of movies…

“I would like to be married [again] and have a father figure for my kids, someone who is a provider and can be really stable. It’s hard doing it on your own.

“I would like to stop worrying so much, because I worry all the time. And to learn how to be happier, just in general. I have to learn to take things not so seriously. Recording this album has helped take my mind off certain things. For me, my music is therapy.”
