kate winsletKate Winslet has said she was adamant not to look too toned for the nude scenes in new film The Reader.

In the period film based on the novel of the same name, Kate plays a former concentration camp guard who, after the war, embarks in an affair with a much younger man.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “It was important to me to look real.

“I really don’t believe in this notion that actors and actresses should look untouchably perfect.”

As for the age gap between her and actor David Kross, she explained it didn’t make much difference: “It was the same as shooting any other scene of that nature.

“A scene with that level of intimacy involving nudity, you know, it’s always nerve-wracking, and you really have to rehearse those scenes so that everybody knows exactly what’s going on.”

She added that she found it more difficult to pile on the layers when she had to play the older version of her character 35 years later: “It was exhausting. It took seven hours to put [the make-up] on every day and the body suit weighs about 15 pounds.”
