Amy Winehouse leaves hospital to jet to the Caribbean

Amy Winehouse is set to spend Christmas in the Caribbean after flying out to St Lucia on Wednesday.

The singer has been in hospital since a collapse at her London home at the end of November - caused by either a drug overdose or a reaction to her anti-drug medication, according to different reports - but a source close to the singer said that even her doctors supported the idea of the holiday: “It’s been a tough year for Amy and they think a break away from things might help her a lot. Help her take a break from being ‘messed up Amy Winehouse‘.”

The singer has already been spotted larking around on the beach and in the sea with friends and the source added: “The thing with a drug habit is that it’s a habit as well as a physical addiction.

“She’s been pretty much drug-free for a month now but only in a hospital environment. They hope this break will show her she can stay clean even when she’s got a bit more freedom.”
