John Travolta flies family home to the US
John Travolta flew his family back to their home in Florida last night after the death of his teenage son on Friday.
The family had been holidaying in the Bahamas when sixteen year old Jett died after a seizure in a confined bathroom sometime on Friday morning.
According to Bahamian politician Obie Wilchcombe, who is close to the family, John and wife Kelly Preston stayed at the morgue with their son’s body for several hours over the weekend: “John and Kelly looked at Jett through a glass screen. And John’s words were ‘That’s my son.’
“They were separated only by the glass and they stayed there for several hours. John was quiet and in a lot of pain.”
Pathologists carried out an autopsy on the boy yesterday and while the official verdict has not been announced, inside sources say it has been listed as simply “seizure”.
Earlier reports of a head injury have been downplayed by sources at the funeral home on the island of Grand Bahama, with them claiming the body was “in great condition and shows no sign of head trauma”.
After the autopsy, the body was cremated and the family flew back to their home in Florida yesterday evening with the ashes - and with John, a trained pilot, flying the plane.
A source close to the family added: “John wanted to bring his boy home.”
John is thought to have invited around 50 friends and relatives to join them at their Bahamian holiday home for New Year. Wilchcombe added: “All their family and friends were supposed to have been here to celebrate.
“But they ended up being there to support them through this very difficult time.”
The family are thought to be planning a funeral/memorial service to take place in Florida next week.
