Jett TravoltaTom Cruise has denied suggestions that John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s faith stopped their son Jett getting the medical treatment he needed.

Sixteen year old Jett died last Friday after a seizure in a bathroom while the family holidayed in the Bahamas for New Year. According to reports, the boy had a history of severe seizures and had been taking medication to reduce the frequency of the attacks - but after discussion with his doctors, weaned him off the drugs to avoid long term complications after they became less effective.

Tom, who has spoken out about anti-depressants and the like in the past, told The View yesterday that it’s “just not true” that their religion Scientology forbids such medication: “They say, ‘Get your physical, get your medication, get your physical illnesses handled.’”

He added: “I just don’t have the words for [to talk about Jett’s death]. It’s just horrific. Here you have a man, both of them doting parents, they’re wonderful people and…

“I remember Jett when he was born. I saw him when he was just a few months old and John just adored him, and both of his children, and Kelly.”

John and Kelly held a private memorial to their son at their Florida home yesterday. The couple were supported by close family and friends at the event in a marquee erected in the grounds of their Ocala home while fans and wellwishers left notes and flowers for the family at the gates.

Forest Whitaker, who attended the service, issued a statement yesterday saying: “Our families have had a long, loving friendship, and John and Kelly are amazing parents.

“We have watched each other’s children grow and cannot imagine the loss of Jett. He was a bright and beautiful young man, and we are honored to have known him.”
