Golden Globes 2009: Kate Winslet “in shock” at winning two awards
After six previous unsuccessful nominations, Kate Winslet finally picked up two Golden Globes at the awards ceremony in Beverly Hills last night.
The star picked up the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in The Reader and the Best Actress award for Revolutionary Road - saying she was “in shock” about receiving both awards.
Taking to the stage to pick up her second award, she tearfully apologised to the other actresses nominated for the trophy - but momentarily forgot Angelina Jolie’s name. After thanking her agents and the Revolutionary Road crew, she told co-star Leonardo DiCaprio: “Leo, I’m so happy I can stand here and tell you how much I love you.
“I’ve loved you for 13 years. I love you with all my heart.”
She added that working with husband Sam Mendes as the director on the film made her love him “even more” and their children Mia & Joe were on the set every day during the making of the film and were “as much as part of it as everybody [in the crew].”
Other big wins of the night included Heath Ledger being posthumously awarded Best Supporting Actor trophy for The Dark Knight, Mickey Rourke scoring the Best Actor award for The Wrestler and Alec Baldwin & Tina Fey picking up acting trophies for 30 Rock, which also won the Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. Danny Boyle’s new film Slumdog Millonaire also picked up four awards - Best Film (Drama), Best Direction, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score.
