Amy Winehouse nearly died twice during drug days, says dad

Amy Winehouse’s dad Mitch Winehouse has revealed that his daughter has dodged death at least twice over the last few years.

In an interview for a documentary set to air in March, Mitch revealed: “She was close to death twice. We have been working a lot to get her to where she is right now. She is better [now].”

But he explained she spent most of her time “lying in bed for days in a dark room” at the height of her abuse and he was often called upon to help clear up the mess she caused with husband Blake Fielder-Civil: “[One time] I got a call to say all hell had broken loose in the early hours of the morning.

“Amy had run out of a hotel room and she was covered in blood. Blake had scratches on his neck, they were self-inflicted. Amy had to have a cut in her arm stitched which she had to go to hospital.”

He added that he’s relieved that it looks like Amy and Blake’s marriage is over - with Blake asking for a divorce in light of infidelity while on holiday in the Caribbean: “I had to call Amy about before she heard about it from someone else.

“She asked me, ‘Daddy, why does he want to divorce me?’ I said, ‘You know I don’t like him, but I have to admit that your behaviour with another man is not what marriage is all about.

“[But] If he goes back to her, they would kill each other.”

Amy insists she’s been drug-free for the duration of her holiday in St Lucia. The singer flew out to the Caribbean island just before Christmas for a two week stay but has enjoyed it so much she’s reportedly extended her break to two months.
