Prince Harry & Chelsy Davy split after five years together

Prince Harry and girlfriend Chelsy Davy have reportedly split up after more than five years together.

Chelsy, who is three-quarters of the way through a two-year postgraduate law degree at Leeds University, is said to have called an end to their relationship after a series of discussions over the last week because Harry “loves the Army more than her”.

A source close to the couple told the News of the World: “She has simply had enough. They have been going through what she calls a ‘rough patch’ and she didn’t see the point in going on.

“Their lives have been moving in different directions. Chelsy is about to embark on a career in law and being a royal girlfriend can be quite limiting.

“She knows there will be a bit of a reaction but within time it will die down and she can get on with her life.”

A second source told the Sunday Mirror: “The real killer for them has been Harry’s decision to learn to fly helicopters. It is such a commitment it leaves little time for a serious relationship.

“Chelsy thinks Harry has got far more time for the Army and his military pals than he has for her. She also gets fed up with the drinking games that go with the culture.”

The source added that Zimbabwe-born Chelsy is still far from settled in the UK: “With Harry so tied up on the course, they would only be able to snatch occasional weekends.

“And she wants more from the relationship than that if she is going to stay in Britain.

“She talked last year about doing corporate law in South Africa. She wants to carve out her own identity, and not just that as Harry’s girlfriend.”

The couple are said to have started split discussions during their New Year holiday in Mauritius but made the final, “amicable” decision last week - with Chelsy almost instantly changing her Facebook relationship status to “not in one”.

But while friends of Chelsy say the status update is a sign that the split is permanent, a royal aide told the Mail on Sunday there is still some hope for a reconciliation: “It’s all very recent and has come as something of a shock.

“They are a couple who were very much in love, it just seems to be the case that it was the right person for Harry but the wrong time. They are still very young, so who knows what will happen.”
