Meryl Streep: being nominated for awards is an honour but also a curse
Meryl Streep has said she doesn’t actually like being nominated for high profile awards.
She told Nightline recently: “It’s an honor to be nominated, and it is! It is. But you just feel worse when you lose than you did before you got nominated.
“When you lose you think ‘my work wasn’t any good’.”
The actress was lost out on two Golden Globes earlier in the month (for Best Actress in a Drama for Doubt and Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Mamma Mia) but picked up the Screen Actor’s Guild Best Actress trophy last night for Doubt.
In her SAG acceptance speech last night, she explained though that everyone nominated alongside her - Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Melissa Leo and Kate Winslet - deserved the trophy too: “There is no such thing as the best actress. There is no such thing as the greatest living actress. I am in a position where I have secret information that I know this to be true.
“I am so in awe of the work of the women this year - nominated, not nominated - so proud of us girls. Everybody wins when we get parts like this.”
Do you think Katie Price's marriage to Alex Reid will last?
