Matt Damon: I refused to pay $25,000 a ticket for Obama’s inauguration
Matt Damon has revealed that unlike the rest of Hollywood, he deliberately turned down a chance to attend Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration last week.
Matt and wife Luciana helped campaign for Obama during the election and he thought that might give him an ‘in’ to getting tickets.
But he explained: “When I called my contacts from the campaign, they just started laughing: ‘We worked on the campaign for two and a half years, and we’re not going. Forget it.’
“Then, they called me back the next day and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got two tickets for you, in the bleachers, and you’ll actually be able to see Obama take the oath. Just $25,000 apiece.’”
But while Matt’s BFF Ben Affleck attended the freezing event and related balls, Matt and Luciana decided to save their money and watched the ceremony from the comfort of their home in Florida: “It was warmer and we got a better view.”
