Mira Sorvino has announced she’s pregnant with her third child.

The actress, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Mighty Aphrodite in 1996, already has two children with husband Chris Backus - four year old daughter Mattea Angel and two year son Johnny Christopher - but they announced yesterday that number three will arrive over the summer.

The couple explained in a statement: “We are overjoyed at the thought of welcoming a new addition to the family.

“With each child the love in our hearts has expanded beyond what we ever imagined was possible.”

The couple married in 2004 and last month, Mira told CNN her children are “our favourite people in the world”: “We spend all our time with our two kids. We don’t spend a lot of time partying. We don’t go out much. And we just love our children and we love each other. And we have a good life. You know, we’re sort of normal people living in an abnormal place.”
