heath ledgerHeath Ledger’s dad Kim Ledger has revealed he’s planning an acceptance speech in case his late son wins a posthumous Oscar on Sunday.

Heath, who died of an accidental drug overdose last January, was awarded the Best Supporting Actor trophies at the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards and the BAFTAs for his portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight and is expected to win the Academy Award this weekend. His previous trophies have been collected on behalf of the family by the film’s director Christopher Nolan but Kim arrived in Los Angeles on Wednesday to represent his son at this weekend’s event.

Kim told reporters: “I may say a few words. [It’ll be] bittersweet, obviously.

“I’m extremely proud [that he’s won so many awards but] you can’t expect to win something like this.

“[The Academy] could just as easily turn left, as [it] could go right.”

The family have made it clear that Heath’s daughter Matilda will eventually receive all her dad’s trophies - if Heath wins the Oscar, currently three year old Matilda will have to wait until she’s 18 before she can receive the award officially as she has to sign a contract to effectively say she will not sell the coveted statue.
