John Mayer: The Oscars is a whole other world but I’m glad I went

John Mayer has said he was “very, very nervous” about attending the weekend’s Academy Awards - but was glad he went.

John attended the A-list ceremony on the arm of girlfriend Jennifer Aniston as “moral support” for the actress who was presenting an award at the ceremony - and inevitably bumping into ex-husband Brad Pitt and his new partner, Angelina Jolie.

Speaking to On Air with Ryan Seacrest yesterday, John explained: “It’s not my world, the Oscar thing. You can go from a Grammy winner to a water boy when you walk in the Kodak Theatre on Oscar night. That’s just like a whole different level.

“The whole thing is very odd to me. The idea of walking down a red carpet is such … you know that forever, I basically stepped into the picture frame of Hollywood.

“I maybe need to grow up or something… For one night, I put on the most amazing suit and entered into the picture frame.”

But he’s glad he went with the former Friends star: “You have to really be with someone that you know has your back in that situation, and she did, and it was really great.”

Jennifer and John are said to have started dating after meeting at an Oscars party last year and Sunday’s ceremony marked the first time they stepped out together at a major red carpet event.

He added: “At some point, you feel comfortable and say this is the choice I want to make.

“I think a year is a pretty good period of time with which to say, ‘Let’s go have a really good time at the Oscars!’”
