Reese WitherspoonReese Witherspoon has said she found her divorce from Ryan Phillippe “very humiliating” because they had to go through the split in the public eye.

The couple were married for seven years and had two children together before announcing their separation in late 2006. The split was surrounded by rumours that Ryan was jealous of Reese’s success and had been unfaithful with Stop-Loss co-star Abbie Cornish - he denied both rumours but is now dating Abbie.

Reese told Elle magazine: “[The split was] very humiliating and very isolating. But, by the way, if it’s not painful, maybe it wasn’t the right decision to marry to begin with. Those are the appropriate emotions.”

“When people get in your face and say, ‘This will pass,’ you think, Are they crazy? I’m never gonna feel any better than I feel right this minute and nothing’s ever gonna make sense again. And I still have moments where I’m like, Nothing’s ever gonna make sense again.”

Reese and Ryan have remained on good terms for the sake of their children - daughter Ava, now eight and four year old Deacon - and Reese added that she avoids playing the “blame game” with Ryan: “It’s a really easy thing to do, and I’m certainly guilty of it.

“[You have to] look at yourself and go, ‘What part of this do I need to own? Which part of this is my responsibility? And that’s the painful work that you have to go through to hopefully get some real life knowledge out of it.”

Reese is now rumoured to be on the verge of marrying Rendition co-star Jake Gyllenhaal, who she describes as “a fantastic guy”.
