Chris Brown’s court date postponed after new assault charge
Chris Brown’s court hearing has been pushed back a month after the singer was charge with a second offence yesterday.
Hours before the star was due to appear in court for his arraignment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office added a felony-level count of assault to his making criminal threats charge against girlfriend Rihanna.
The singer briefly attended court with attorney Mark Geragos yesterday but didn’t enter a plea on either charges after the judge granted Geragos’ request to postpone the hearing until 6th April.
The DA’s office is believed to have finally decided to push ahead with the assault charge in light of new forensic evidence. Chris allegedly attacked Rihanna in his car after an argument and photos of the Lamborghini’s interior show spatters of blood, scuff marks and damage which forensic experts believe shows signs of a “terrible struggle”. According to reports, Rihanna lost consciousness during the incident as well as ended up bruised and bloodied, with bitemarks on her fingers.
The judge at yesterday’s court hearing said that Rihanna “does not request a no-contact order” to keep Chris away from her - as the couple are believed to have reconciled - but warned Chris: “You are not to annoy, harass, molest, threaten or use force or violence against anyone.”
If found guilty of both offences, Chris could receive up to four years and eight months in a state prison. He is currently out on $50,000 bail.
