Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse has been charged with assault after allegedly hitting a fan last September.

The star, who returned to the UK at the weekend after nearly three months on holiday in the Caribbean, voluntarily attended a police station in London yesterday and after being questioned was charged with common assault.

A spokesperson for Amy explained: “Amy voluntarily attended a police station in London yesterday morning.

“She was questioned by appointment in relation to an accusation made after the Berkeley [End of Summer charity] ball last year.”

Amy sang at the event which raised money for the Prince’s Trust charity.

A hearing has been set at the City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 17th March.
