jade goodyJade Goody has defended her new husband Jack Tweed in what is likely to be her last interview.

The reality TV star married on-off boyfriend of four year Jack in a hastily-organised lavish ceremony late last month after she was told her cancer was terminal. Jack, who is on conditional parole from jail after being convicted of assaulting a teenager, was given special permission to allow them to spend their wedding night together - he is usually restricted to his mum’s house between the hours of 7pm-7am - and received criticism for staying at the reception after exhausted Jade had to retire to bed.

Jade, who is now almost blind and unlikely to survive the month, told Look magazine that he didn’t abandon her: “I told him to stay up and enjoy himself. It was his night too. He stayed up with the boys [her young sons], pushing them around in my wheelchair and eating cupcakes.

“Then around 2am, I woke up as he slid his arms around me. He’d put the boys to bed and come in for a hug. He really has been amazing.

“I was so happy that he got to spend the night with me at the hospital last Tuesday. It’s not the same as being at home but it’s a real treat having some special time alone. People forget how hard this is for Jack too.”

She added that she doesn’t want people to get distracted by pictures of Jack out with his friends - or by his second assault conviction in less than six months, which could see him return to jail just before or after she dies: “What’s important is that he’s been there for me, yes, despite all the pictures of him out and about with his mates.

“He’s been by my side every day, cuddling and kissing me.”

Jack spent five hours at Jade’s bedside yesterday and was there with her and her sons Bobby and Freddie during their group christening on Saturday.
