Leon JacksonX Factor winner Leon Jackson has been dropped by his record label Sony after just one album.

Leon scored the 2007 Christmas No1 slot with his debut single ‘When You Believe’ just a week after winning the ITV1 talent show but by the time he released his debut album in October last year, his fanbase had diminished and the CD only sold 130,000 copies. In comparison, 2007’s runner-up Rhydian’s debut album (released in November last year) is said to have sold double that while the previous year’s winner Leona Lewis has sold more than six million copies worldwide.

A source close to Simon Cowell told the Sun that Simon supported Sony’s move: “He thought the most talented person should have won. That was never Leon and what has happened since has proved him right.

“Leon’s a good lad, but he’s definitely not set the world alight.”

Leon himself is quoted as saying: “I had a great year and learned so much recording and releasing my album. Every artist knows these things can go either way.

“I’m really looking forward to my tour and doing more writing.”
