amy winehouseAmy Winehouse’s record company is reportedly less than impressed with the songs she’s hoping to include on her third album.

Amy has been working on the tracks off and on since the release of her hugely successful ‘Back to Black’ album in October 2006. While ‘Back to Black’, which has sold more than 11million copies worldwide, was not exactly cheerful, the inspiration for her new set of songs is even darker as in that time she’s nearly died due to drug abuse, been arrested several times and has been separated from her husband since he was jailed in November 2007.

A source told the Sun: “The lyrics are very dark indeed. While she’s known for her confessional style and has been very successful with it, many of the tracks are near the knuckle.

“Everyone understands that Amy is an artist and she must be true to her instincts. In the past, she’s written frequently about broken hearts and boyfriends, but this time round she’s delving into harrowing terrain.”

The source added that Amy also wants a change of style, which isn’t finding favour with executives at Island Records: “She seems to have ditched her trademark vintage soul sound and is now heavily influenced by reggae.

“Her bosses don’t think it’s a wise move to change her style so sharply and have told her that.

“It’s crucial Amy’s return is handled properly. If she puts out a record that is in any way half-baked, that could severely damage her long-term prospects, so everyone’s focus at the minute is getting it right, even if that means telling Amy some things she probably won’t want to hear.”

Amy was expected to fly out to Jamaica later this month to record some of the tracks for the album but the trip has now been postponed.
