Madonna going to adopt another child “before the end of the month”
Madonna is reportedly expected to adopt her second child from Malawi in the next few days.
The singer created considerable controversy when she adopted son David from the country in October 2006 and earlier this month said that she would not adopt from the country again unless she had the approval of the nation’s government and people.
Now a Malawi government spokesperson has confirmed that a second adoption is set to take place any day now: “We expect her over the weekend or earlier than that… but without a doubt she is coming before the end of this month.”
The child in question is believed to be a three year old girl Mercy, who Madonna has been trying to adopt since late 2006. As well as legal issues, the girl’s grandmother is said to object to the international adoption and according to the Sun, there are five other girls of a similar age “on stand-by” in case the adoption of Mercy falls through.
A source told the newspaper: “Madonna is determined that she will leave Malawi with a new daughter.
“She desperately wants Mercy but there are other orphans who need homes.”
In related news, Madonna has signalled that she’s split from boyfriend Jesus Luz.
Madonna began dating the 22 year old male model after meeting him on a photo shoot in Brazil late last year - but her relationship with him so soon after she split from husband Guy Ritchie is said to have caused concerns for adoption officials in Malawi.
Writing on Twitter yesterday, the star said she was “glad” to be single again.
