The Sugababes star began dating Freddie around the time she joined the girl group in December 2005 and she described him as a “colourful character”: he was arrested twice during their relationship and nearly lost his arm in a machete attack outside a nightclub at Christmas 2007.

A record company source told the Mirror: “Amelle used to think it was her and Freddie against the world and they hid away together.

“But she decided after a difficult Christmas and New Year that she wanted to be single again.

“Now she has broken the news to him that it is over. He was absolutely devastated.”
