Shia LaBeouf: my hand will never fully recover from crash
Shia LaBeouf has revealed that his hand will never fully heal following his car crash last summer.
The Transformers star’s left hand was crushed when his truck flipped over in a crash on his way home from a club. The driver of the other car was judged to be to blame for the incident but Shia was still banned for driving for a year for a DUI charge.
But he told Entertainment Weekly recently that the damage to his hand is a more long lasting consequence. The bone in one of his fingers had to be completely replaced and he’s been told he’ll only recover “about 80-something per cent” of his hand’s dexterity: “I’ve had screws and plates put in. They put a screw in one of my knuckles. And they shaved a piece of bone off my hip and made a finger out of it.
“I’m on my third surgery. That’s coming up… My middle finger is still crooked as a f**king noodle, so they’ve gotta straighten it out and put a screw in it.
“I’ll be able to make a fist again (but) there’s a knuckle I’ll never be able to move again.”
Despite undergoing surgery immediately after the crash, Shia was back on the set of Transformers 2 within weeks - on Indiana Jones co-star Harrison Ford: “The first voice I heard when I came out of surgery was Harrison’s.
“Harrison called me on the phone and said, ‘Hey, are you Ok?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m good.’ He said, ‘Well, then you need to get back to work.’ I said, ‘Are you serious?’ He said, ‘That’s the way this cookie crumbles.’ So I went back to work. The show doesn’t stop for anybody.
“The thing that cut deep to the core of me was knowing that there were 65 human beings (in the Transformers 2 crew), who are like family to me, waiting for me to come back. They were sitting on their a**es doing nothing because of my… situation.
“It’s the most intense s**t I’ve ever dealt with, and I am still dealing with.”
Do you think Katie Price's marriage to Alex Reid will last?
