Rihanna asks police to return $1million of “evidence” jewels
Rihanna has reportedly asked the Los Angeles Police Department to return over jewellery worth over $1million, which they’ve kept as evidence since her incident with Chris Brown in February.
Rihanna had borrowed the accessories from four different jewellers to wear to Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party on 7th February and was still wearing the items - hoop earrings and three rings - when she left the party with then-boyfriend Chris Brown. The pair are believed to have got into an argument on the way home and now Chris is facing charges of making criminal threats and assault.
Rihanna’s lawyer Donald Etra entered a request to court this week for the return of the items: “Since there appears to be no evidentiary value to the continued holding of this jewelry … we respectfully [ask] the court to order the return of this property to [Rihanna] without further delay.”
Rihanna will be held liable if the accessories are not returned to their owners in a timely fashion, with costs and compensation set to cost the star $1.4million.
Etra added: “If the DA doesn’t need the items, and the LAPD doesn’t need the items, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be returned.”
Earlier this month, Chris entered a not guilty plea in relationship to the charges but is rumoured to be negotiating a plea bargain with prosecutors.
