Chris Brown’s lawyer seeks to have assault case dismissed?
Chris Brown’s lawyer is reportedly seeking to have the singer’s assault case dismissed due to police misconduct.
Earlier this month, Chris pleaded not guilty to felony-level charges of assault and making criminal threats after an incident with girlfriend Rihanna at the start of February. His lawyer Mark Geragos was then thought to be negotiating a plea bargain to allow the star to avoid jail time but now is said to be pursuing a different legal strategy.
A source explained: “With all the publicity around the case, it was always going to be hard to find an impartial jury but after police reports and photos of Rihanna were leaked, it went from being hard to just about impossible.”
The Los Angeles Police Department launched an internal investigation after the pictures were released in February and now Brown’s legal team is said to be seeking material from that investigation.
Lawyer Geragos is quoted as saying: “Leaks can form the basis for a motion to dismiss the case in regard to outrageous governmental misconduct.”
Yesterday the LAPD agreed to hand back jewellery worth an estimated $1.4million to Rihanna. The three rings and earrings were held as evidence after the incident but Rihanna’s lawyer asked for them back last week on the grounds that the companies that loaned them to her wanted them back or for her to pay for them.
