Amy Winehouse is reportedly close to breaking point again after her comeback gig on Friday was a disaster.

Between hospital stints and holidays, Amy had gone nearly nine months without a live gig - but agreed to perform at the St Lucia Jazz Festival as a “thank you” for the hospitality she’s received on the island over the last few months. Amy initially travelled to the island just before Christmas last year for a two week holiday - but extended it to two months after being well-received by locals and enjoying herself so much. She returned to the UK for a few weeks in March before flying back to the Caribbean for another long holiday.

The singer was the star attraction at the music festival but according to onlookers, began her show an hour late, drank copiously on stage and struggled to remember the lyrics of even her best-known songs.

One onlooker explained: “She seemed virtually asleep at one point while sitting at the front of the stage with her eyes closed.

“It was weird, she kept taking her shoes on and off. At other times she stopped singing. The audience started booing and she yelled f*** off at least twice.

“It was entertaining but only in the way a train crash is.”

A source close to the star explained: “Amy’s been doing well over the last few months. She’s been drinking a lot but that’s been it.

“It’s a huge improvement [compared to how she was a year ago] but it’s hard work for her. It’s hard work staying clean and it’s hard work getting on a stage she knows everyone’s expecting the worst.

“It was easier when she was just on holiday but now she’s having to get back to work, performing and ramping up for the release of her next album. Her drinking has been ramping up of late too. She’s reaching the peak of her rollercoaster again.”

Her spokesperson blamed the gig’s difficulties on weather problems: “Amy would like to express her disappointment that weather forced the abandonment of her show at the St Lucia Jazz Festival. The set started well, but as the heavens opened, a number technical difficulties occurred on stage, culminating with the lighting rig failing for two songs.

“In addition, rain began to flood the technical wings at the side of the stage which caused sound problems. Amy and the band tried to soldier on but the set had to be cut short.

“Amy is very disappointed as St Lucia has been wonderful to her and its people have welcomed her with open arms, but circumstances beyond anyone’s control meant that this special show did not go as planned.”

Amy is next due to perform in London at the end of the month.
