Brad Pitt has joked that he was tricked into starring in Quentin Tarantino’s new film Inglourious Basterds.

Speaking at the film’s press conference at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday before its premiere yesterday evening, Brad explained: “Quentin came to visit with the script… and all I know is we talked about it… the back story and we talked about movies until the wee hours of the night.

“I got up the next morning and I saw five empty bottles of wine laying on the floor - five - and something that resembled a smoking apparatus - I don’t know what that was about.

“Apparently I agreed to do the movie because six weeks later I was in uniform.”

Brad and partner Angelina Jolie attended the red carpet event together - the first time the couple have stepped out together since the award season at the start of the year.

On their way to Cannes this week, Angelina stopped in to The Hague in the Netherlands, to attend a war crimes tribunal at the International Criminal Court. The Changeling star arrived in the south of France on Tuesday night and was spotted dining with Brad at the Michelangelo restaurant in Antibes that evening.
