Amy Winehouse cancels “emotionally painful” comeback gig
Amy Winehouse has pulled out of her comeback gig in the UK, sparking new fears about her health and mental state.
Amy was scheduled to perform at her record label Island’s 50th Anniversary show at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London next weekend but is instead staying on holiday in St Lucia in the Caribbean.
A source close to the star told the Sun that she’s backed out because it’s “emotionally painful” for her to sing some of her biggest hits because they reminded her of her estranged husband Blake Fielder Civil: “Singing the songs she sang in St Lucia has brought back too many painful memories. She just can’t face it.
“Amy is regretful about having to do this but she needs to close this chapter and start a new one.”
Amy is said to have been working on her third album, her follow-up to her colassal hit ‘Back to Black’, for the last year - but recording has taken second place to hospital stays and her health. While the star has beaten her drug addictions, she’s said to be “drinking like a lunatic” recently.
A second source added: “She wasn’t in any fit state to perform [in St Lucia] and there is no way she’d be ready for the London gig either.
“She still has too many demons to fight. It is such a shame.”
