Amy Winehouse’s mum Janis has said the singer has turned to alcohol over the last few months because she’s been bored and lonely.

The singer deliberately left behind her London party friends when she flew out to St Lucia for a second extended break in March but while the holiday has helped keep her away from drugs, she said to have been drinking to excess instead.

Janis told Closer magazine: “Two of her closest friends are going over to try to calm her down a bit.

“I think it will make a big difference because in the past few weeks she’s been bored.”

And when she does have something to do - such as a gig at a jazz festival on the island - her drinking can get in the way of that too: “Amy knows her drinking ruined the performance. Of course her band is frustrated, but even they can’t stop her.

“She came off drugs on her own so I know she’ll stop drinking too much too. It has to be her decision though, no one else can stop her.”
