kerry_katona_00.jpgKerry Katona has said she’s still saddened by her infamous This Morning interview.

The reality TV star slurred her way through an interview on the morning show last October, provoking presenters Philip Schofield and Fern Britton to ask whether she was drunk at 11am. Kerry lost her column in OK magazine and nearly lost her contract with frozen food chain Iceland as a result of the rumours she was an alcoholic - but she insists the slurring was simply a side effect of her bipolar medication.

Speaking on GMTV today, she explained that she hadn’t taken her medication ahead this morning’s interview in case history repeated itself: “I never took my medication last night because I was so embarrassed about what happened on This Morning I didn’t want to slur. I don’t mind doing it on my show.

“But I thought if I take my meds last night, because it’s early in the morning I’ll start slurring I’ll just get criticised again because the public don’t understand it.

“What annoyed me about [This Morning was they never approached me and asked what medication I was on, ‘what is bipolar?”‘

“They just said to me ‘have you been drinking?’ It still upsets me now, I was nationally embarrassed because of medication and illness.’

But she added at least some good came out of her embarrassment: “After This Morning I got criticised so much and no one approached me about bi-polar but the show has opened it up.

“They’ve even put a character in Eastenders with bi-polar which is really good. So hopefully now people will learn a lot [more] about bi-polar.”

About 1 in a 100 people in the UK are thought to suffer from the disorder.
