Chris Martin: I’d only make a solo album if I was desperate for money
Coldplay star Chris Martin has said he can’t see himself ever making a solo album - unless his life goes seriously awry.
Chris met bandmates Jonny Buckland and Guy Berryman at university in 1996 and the trio were joined by drummer Will Champion shortly afterwards - and he explained recently that he’s reluctant to leave them.
He said: “[If I release a solo album] it would probably mean I’ve been dumped by my wife [Gwyneth Paltrow] and I desperately need the money.
“Hell would not only have to freeze over but be skated over and completely closed up.
“The Pope would have to declare it didn’t even exist. I cannot think of anything worse.”
The band are currently in the middle of their Viva la Vida world tour and are starting work on their fifth studio album.
Regarding the new work, Chris added: “Maybe it’s because I’m [getting older], but I just feel hungry to write all the time.
“I think the next album will be quite stripped down and based upon a story idea.”
Do you think Katie Price's marriage to Alex Reid will last?
