Take That: what’s the point of Britney Spears now?

Britney SpearsTake That’s Gary Barlow and Howard Donald have said they doesn’t “see the point” of Britney Spears any more given her new lacklustre dance routines and her tendency to mime rather than sing live.

Last week, Britney performed her single ‘Womanizer’ at a German awards show, then on the French and UK versions of The X Factor to promote her new album ‘Circus’ before heading back to the US for her 27th birthday yesterday and another lip-synched performance, this time on Good Morning America.

Gary, who with the reformed boyband released their own album ‘The Circus’ yesterday, told the Mirror: “I don’t see the point of Britney anymore, she was rubbish on The X Factor. I think she’s more famous than she deserves to be now.

“Why [go] on a show like that and mime? I don’t like her new song either. Her old stuff was great but maybe she should have spent more time on this one.”

Bandmate Howard Donald added: “The truth is all the contestants on X Factor are so talented and were able to sing and dance live, so why couldn’t Britney do it?

“It’s the whole point of the show and her miming looked stupid. It’s not that she can’t do it, Britney is really talented and can sing - I just don’t think she understood the show.

“I think probably she was made to do it as a promotional opportunity in England. Britney is unlikely to have had a lot of say in it. The contestants did a better job than her. I’m glad she’s back but X Factor wasn’t right for her.”

Take That’s album is currently at No1 in the midweek album charts while Britney’s record, released the same day, is at No3.

Video: Miley & Mandy will See You Again

It’s seems like ages since they last posted a video but Miley (as in Miley Cyrus) and best friend Mandy have posted another of their practically indescribable videos.

The girls rock out to a cover of Miley’s hit ‘See You Again’ and scream at each other a lot. Yeah…

Video: Britney Spears’ first UK performance in years on The X Factor

Britney SpearsBritney Spears performed in the UK for the first time in years last night on ITV1’s The X Factor.

After the show’s remaining contestants had sung their versions of Britney’s biggest hits, the star performed her new single ‘Womanizer’ and received a standing ovation from the talent show judges, despite miming and spending a lot of time walking back and forth around the wide stage.

‘Womanizer’ is the first single from her new album ‘Circus’, which is released in the UK tomorrow.

Video: Britney Spears’ first live performance in a year at the Bambi awards

Britney Spears performing at the Bambi awards in GermanyBritney Spears made her first “live” performance in over a year at the Bambi Awards in Germany last night.

The star, who picked up a special trophy for best international pop act, hasn’t performed on stage since her disastrous appearance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.

Wearing an outfit seemingly inspired by friend Madonna’s tour costume, the singer seemed pretty much back to her best when it came to the dancing and … lipsyncing.

Video: He’s Just Not That Into You trailer

I remember hearing loads about He’s Just Not That Into You when it was being filmed - because EVERYONE is in it: rom-com stalwarts Jennifer Aniston & Drew Barrymore, Drew’s then boyfriend Justin Long, Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Kevin Connolly and, in what I think will be a proper break-through role for her, Ginnifer Goodwin.

The film is set for release next February (right in time for Valentine’s Day, natch) but after watching the trailer (below), I worry the film makers have pinned themselves into a corner by making it so now-specific - references to Blackberrys and MySpace are cute now but in a couple of years time, it’ll be like talking about faxes or telegrams. (MySpace already seems a bit weird to me because in the UK most people seem to use Facebook or Bebo for person-to-person stuff, with MySpace just for bands.)

Still though, it looks like it’ll be a lot better than 90% of the rom coms out there - or maybe I’m just a sucker for Drew Barrymore films…
