Alyson Hannigan has revealed she’s given up being vegan while pregnant – and is craving ginger ale. The former Buffy star, who now appears in US sitcom How I Met Your Mother , is currently around six months pregnant with her first child and she told Us Weekly this week:…

This girl has been told rubbish. I’ve been a vegetarian for 30 years and raised two very healthy children , whom are both vegetarian. Sounds like she was just looking for an excuse….why bother!!

To clairify – She didn’t “HAVE” to give up being vegan, she “DECIDED” to give up being a vegan. There are plenty of vegan mamas that have had healthy, happy pregnancies and children. Such a shame. Hopefully she’ll realize how toxic she’s making her body for her baby by eating such rubbish now.

what a moron

“i suddenly found myself craving philly cheese steaks with bacon on top”

well duh! everyone craves philly cheese steaks with bacon on top, but cravings don’t have anything to do with what you need for your health or your baby’s health.

So we throw all our morals out the window because we crave something?

this girl is dumber than dumb

According to the American Dietetic Association she doesn’t have to give up being vegan while she’s pregnant. Here’s what they say:

“Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits…and have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.”

In fact, I would think that not eating all the toxic chemicals and antibiotics in meat and dairf is the best thing for her baby.

I have been vegetarian for eleven years, vegan for most of that time, and last year I had a healthy vegan baby. My doctor was very supportive of my vegan diet during pregnancy. I had no complications and my three month old vegan baby, who is exclusively breastfed, is in the 98th percentile for size. She is in perfect health.

It really bothers me when people say they had to start eating meat and dairy products for their baby. What a bullshit excuse. A baby is no excuse to suddenly support the torture and slaughter of innocent beings.

My daughter is the healthiest baby I have ever seen and I attribute this to my healthy, vegan diet.

I don’t understand why people still think having a baby is a good excuse to start eating animals when the ADA and any quality doctor will tell you there are benefits of NOT eating them.

Everyone is saying the same thing. And I agree. You don’t need to eat meat “for your baby”. It would actually be much healthier to eat tofu, tempeh, rice and beans, quinoa, seitan peas and other vegetarian forms of protein.

The real question is why did shego vegan in the first place???? Most vegans have a social or moral compass which lead them to stop eating animal products. I wish this interview asked her these questions. I stopped eating meat because it didn’t feel right. I loved animals too much.

No matter what, I could NEVER go back to eating meat. No way.

Wow, I was getting all fired up to write a cutting response but it looks like several people have beat me to it. Have to agree with everything above. However, I’d like to point out that Hannigan said that she “basically went from being a vegan,” and that she didn’t eat meat or cheese before. What about eggs? What about ALL animal products. Eating a vegan diet (or a “basically” vegan diet) is not the same as BEING a vegan, which entails having a certain ethical perspective. If she gave it up that easily, she obviously didn’t share that perspective. Just another Oprah-style celeb going through her diet of the moment.

What a load of nonsense! As a mother of a perfectly health vegan 4 year old (vegan since birth and ahead of most of her school friends both physically and mentally) I can say with some experience that bringing up a child as a vegan can certainly be a very healthy choice. It sounds like Alyson Hannigan has used a few perfectly normal cravings during pregnancy as an excuse to ditch something that she probably wasn’t committed to for any ethical or moral reason in the first place.

She’s not a moron, and least of all she is not dumb.
I know nothing about being a parent as I am only 18, but you don’t have to start getting offensive.
When people start to slag off your idol, you start to get very annoyed.

Maybe she was looking for an excuse, and good on her she found one.
If she was told that she had to give it up, then she was just trying to do what is right by what she knows.

If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all
