Kate Moss
Brief Biography
Kate Moss was born in Croydon, London on 16 January 1974 and attended local schools to little academic success. However, while passing through JFK airport in New York after a holiday in the Caribbean when she was 14, Kate was spotted by Storm Model Agency, Sarah Doukas. Doukas believed Kate’s small stature (5′6) and slight build offered designers and photographers an interesting contrast to the standard Amazonian supermodel look of the time and immediately signed Kate to Storm.
Kate’s first major photoshoot was for The Face magazine in the UK but more work was quick to follow. Kate came to the general public’s attention through her advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein and her controversial waif-like appearance which caused many to believe she suffered from an eating disorder. However, despite her unusual appearance, she has consistently worked for major designers and fashion houses across the world throughout the 1990s and into the 21st century.
In addition to fashion modelling, Kate has worked with artists and sculptors - most notably Lucian Freud who’s nude portrait of Moss recently sold for almost £4million - and appeared in music videos. She is reportedly keen to move into acting or fashion design once her modelling career comes to an end.
Despite high profile relationships with the likes of Johnny Depp, Kate Moss sailed reasonably low on the celebrity gossip radar until recently: last year, in the wake of being photographed taking cocaine with then boyfriend Pete Doherty, she was accused of numerous other instances of drug abuse and taking part in threesomes with Sadie Frost and Jude Law, and lesbian relationships with Sadie and friend Davinia Taylor.
Kate has a daughter, Lila Grace, born 29 September 2002, from her relationship with magazine editor Jefferson Hack.
